Precipitation
Ика is one of Peru’s driest cities, with almost no rainfall throughout the year. The little rain that does fall occurs in February and March, but even then, it barely registers—just 3.6 mm and 2.6 mm, respectively.
From April to November, precipitation is negligible, often less than 0.2 mm per month. The dry air means travelers won’t need to worry about rain disrupting plans, whether visiting in June or December.
The lack of rain contributes to Ика’s desert-like conditions, with clear skies and plenty of sunshine. Even in the rare months with trace rainfall, it’s unlikely to affect travel or outdoor activities.

What to pack
For most of the year, light clothing works well in Ика. From November to April, when temperatures hover between 20 °C and 27 °C, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen will keep you comfortable. A light jacket or shawl is useful for cooler evenings, especially in January and February.
From May to October, the air cools slightly, so packing layers makes sense. Mornings and evenings can feel chilly, particularly in July and August, when temperatures dip to 14 °C. A light sweater or long-sleeve shirt will help.
Since Ика sees almost no rain, waterproof gear isn’t necessary. However, sun protection is essential year-round—sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunscreen will help shield you from the strong desert sun. Comfortable walking shoes are a good idea for exploring the city and nearby dunes.
