Weather overview

Маруа lies in a region where the climate shifts dramatically between dry and rainy seasons. From November to April, the weather in Маруа is almost entirely dry, with plenty of sunshine and minimal rainfall. The hottest period arrives in March and April, when daytime temperatures often climb above +35 °C, making outdoor activities challenging without preparation.

Starting in May, the first rains begin to cool Маруа, though the real wet season takes hold in July and August. During these months, Маруа experiences frequent downpours, sometimes lasting for hours, which can affect travel plans. By October, the rains ease, and the dry season gradually returns, offering more predictable conditions for exploring the area.

What to pack

For a trip to Маруа during the dry season, lightweight, breathable clothing is essential, especially from March to April when temperatures soar. A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen will help protect against the intense sun. Evenings can be cooler, so a light jacket or shawl is useful, particularly in January and December.

If visiting Маруа between June and September, waterproof footwear and a compact umbrella or raincoat are must-haves. Quick-dry fabrics are ideal, as humidity can make damp clothes uncomfortable. Mosquito protection is also advisable during the wet season, as standing water can increase insect activity. For any time of year, comfortable walking shoes are recommended for exploring Маруа’s terrain.
