Weather overview

Маринга sits in southern Brazil, where the weather shifts noticeably between warm, wet summers and cooler, drier winters. The city’s subtropical climate means you’ll rarely face extreme temperatures, but the seasons still bring distinct changes that shape daily life and travel plans.

From November to March, Маринга feels warmest, with daytime highs often reaching 30 °C or more. These months also bring the most rain, so expect frequent showers and higher humidity. By April, the air cools slightly, and the rains ease, making it a quieter time to explore the city without the summer crowds.

Between May and September, Маринга enters its dry season, with cooler nights and crisp mornings. Temperatures drop to around 14–15 °C at night, while days stay mild, usually between 20–25 °C. This stretch is ideal for outdoor walks and day trips, as the weather stays settled for weeks at a time.

Temperature

In Маринга, the warmest months are December, January, and February, when average highs hover around 30–31 °C. Nights remain warm, rarely dipping below 20 °C, so evenings stay comfortable for dining outdoors or strolling through the city’s parks.

By April, the heat starts to fade, and May brings a noticeable shift. Daytime temperatures drop to 20–25 °C, while nights can feel chilly, especially in June and July, when lows reach 14–15 °C. This is the coolest time of year in Маринга, though frost is almost unheard of.

From August, the air gradually warms again, and by September, the city returns to spring-like conditions. By October, temperatures climb back toward 24–29 °C, setting the stage for the summer heat that peaks in December and January.

Precipitation

Маринга sees most of its rain between October and March, with January and February being the wettest months. During this period, downpours are common, often arriving in short, intense bursts that leave streets glistening and gardens lush. If you visit in these months, a light rain jacket or umbrella will come in handy.

From April, rainfall drops sharply, and by May, the dry season begins. Between May and August, Маринга receives only a fraction of its annual rain, with July being the driest month. The air feels fresher, and the lack of humidity makes the cooler temperatures even more pleasant.

By September, the rains start to return, though they remain lighter than in summer. October and November bring more frequent showers, but they’re usually brief, giving way to sunny spells. This mix of sun and rain keeps the city’s landscapes green year-round.

What to pack

If you’re visiting Маринга between November and March, pack light, breathable clothing for the heat and humidity. Quick-dry fabrics, sandals, and a wide-brimmed hat will help you stay comfortable during the day, while a light sweater or shawl is useful for air-conditioned spaces or breezy evenings.

For trips between May and September, layers are key. Days are mild, so a mix of short-sleeve shirts and light long-sleeve tops works well, but evenings can feel cool, especially in June and July. A light jacket or cardigan will keep you comfortable after sunset, and closed-toe shoes are a good idea for cooler mornings.

No matter when you visit Маринга, don’t forget rain gear if you’re traveling during the wetter months. A compact umbrella or a waterproof shell will save you from sudden downpours, while a small backpack or crossbody bag keeps your essentials dry. Comfortable walking shoes are a must year-round, as the city’s streets and parks invite exploration.
