Weather overview
Манагуа sits near the Pacific coast of Nicaragua, where the climate stays warm year-round but shifts between distinct dry and rainy seasons. From November to April, the city enjoys its driest months, with plenty of sunshine and minimal rainfall. This is when Манагуа feels most comfortable for exploring, whether you're walking through its markets or visiting nearby lakes.
Starting in May, the rains gradually return, peaking between June and October. While downpours can be heavy, they’re usually short-lived, leaving the rest of the day humid but manageable. Even during the wet season, Манагуа rarely cools down—temperatures stay steady, though the air feels heavier with moisture.
Temperature
In Манагуа, the heat is a constant companion, with average temperatures hovering around +27 °C to +29 °C throughout the year. The warmest months are March and April, when daytime highs can reach +34–35 °C, while nights offer little relief, staying around +23–24 °C. Even in the cooler months like December or January, the difference is subtle—expect +32 °C during the day and +22 °C at night.
The city’s location near Lake Managua helps moderate extreme heat, but the tropical sun can still feel intense, especially in April before the rains begin. If you’re sensitive to heat, mornings and late afternoons are the best times to be outdoors in Манагуа, regardless of the season.

What to pack
For a trip to Манагуа during the dry season (November to April), lightweight, breathable clothing is essential. Pack loose shirts, shorts, and a wide-brimmed hat to shield yourself from the strong sun. Sunglasses and sunscreen are must-haves year-round, as UV levels remain high even on cloudier days.
If you’re visiting Манагуа in the rainy season (May to October), add a compact rain jacket or umbrella to your list. Quick-dry fabrics will help you stay comfortable in the humidity, and waterproof footwear is useful for sudden downpours. A light sweater or shawl can also come in handy for cooler evenings, though temperatures rarely drop below +22 °C.
