Weather overview

Лодвар lies in Kenya’s arid northwest, where the climate stays warm year-round but shifts between dry and wet periods. From January to March, the weather in Лодваре is consistently hot and dry, with daytime highs often reaching 36–37 °C and nights cooling to around 23–24 °C. This is one of the driest stretches of the year, with little rainfall to interrupt travel plans.

By April, the pattern changes as the long rains arrive. Лодвар sees its wettest month, with over 120 mm of rain, though downpours are usually brief and followed by sunshine. The heat eases slightly in June and July, when temperatures dip to a more comfortable 29–30 °C during the day. The short rains in October and November bring another round of showers, but they’re lighter than in April and rarely last long.

Temperature

Temperatures in Лодваре remain high throughout the year, with daytime averages hovering around 30–35 °C. The hottest months are February and March, when the mercury can climb to 37 °C, while nights stay warm at 23–24 °C. Even in the cooler months of July and August, daytime highs rarely drop below 34 °C, though evenings feel slightly fresher at 24–25 °C.

The most noticeable shift comes with the rains. In April and May, the air feels heavier, but the temperature drops a degree or two, settling around 30–35 °C. By June, the heat becomes more manageable, with highs around 34 °C and lows near 25 °C. The brief respite lasts until September, when Лодвар starts warming up again ahead of the short rains.

Precipitation

Лодвар has two distinct rainy seasons, though neither brings constant downpours. The long rains peak in April, with nearly 130 mm of rainfall, often in short, intense bursts. By contrast, June and July are almost completely dry, with less than 10 mm of rain combined. The short rains in October and November are milder, with around 50–60 mm of precipitation each month.

Outside these periods, rain is rare. From January to March, Лодвар sees only light showers, with monthly totals under 40 mm. Even in the transitional months like May and September, rainfall is modest, making it easy to plan outdoor activities. The dry air and sparse vegetation mean that even a little rain can make the landscape briefly lush before the sun returns.

What to pack

For a trip to Лодвар in the dry season, pack lightweight, breathable clothing to cope with the heat. Loose long sleeves and a wide-brimmed hat will help shield you from the sun, especially in February and March, when temperatures peak. A light scarf or shawl is useful for cooler evenings, though nights rarely drop below 23 °C.

If visiting during the rainy seasons, a compact rain jacket or umbrella is worth bringing, particularly for April and October. Quick-dry fabrics and sturdy sandals will keep you comfortable if paths get muddy. Sunscreen and sunglasses are essential year-round, as the sun in Лодваре is strong even on cloudy days. A refillable water bottle is also a good idea to stay hydrated in the dry heat.
