Koreiz
Koreiz is a quiet Crimean coastal settlement where mountains meet the sea. The air smells of salt and pine, and the only sounds are waves crashing and cypress trees rustling in the breeze. It’s for those who want to step away from the rush. Narrow paths wind through old gardens, hidden coves, and villas half-hidden in greenery.

The village’s history is in its grand estates, built in the late 19th century as summer retreats for aristocratic families. The Dulber Palace has white walls and arches inspired by Moorish design. Nearby, the Yusupov Palace sits in terraced gardens where rare plants grow and fountains still murmur. Paths lead down to the sea, past stone staircases and gazebos where owners once drank tea as the sun set.

The sea here is clear and cool. Rocky shores make swimming tricky, but the solitude is worth it. The coastline mixes smooth stones, cliffs, and small bays where water turns turquoise. Rent a boat to explore hidden inlets or dive to see fish darting between rocks. By May, the water is warm enough for long swims. Or just sit on the shore and listen to the waves.

Beyond Koreiz, the land grows wilder. Mount Ai-Petri’s peaks loom nearby, offering coastal views from the summit—reachable by cable car or hike. A short drive away, Livadia Palace marks the site of the Yalta Conference. Massandra’s wine cellars store bottles aged in Crimean darkness. Back in the village, the past lingers: an old church with faded frescoes, a small museum, the ruins of a Genoese fortress.

There are no grand hotels, just guesthouses and family-run pensions. Owners might offer tea before showing you to your room. Local cafés serve grilled fish, garden vegetables, and tangy cheeses. In the evenings, lanterns glow along the waterfront, and laughter spills from open-air restaurants. But the quiet moments are best—alone on a bench, watching the light fade over the water.

Koreiz doesn’t try to impress. The mountains, the sea, and the silence are enough.
