Jerusalem

Jerusalem sits on the hills of Judea, its stones and alleyways holding millennia of history. Here, the stories of three major religions intersect, shaping the Old City’s ancient walls and the neighborhoods beyond. The city is a chronicle written in different languages, by different hands, across generations.

The Old City, enclosed by 16th-century walls, is Jerusalem’s core. Its four quarters—Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and Armenian—are connected by narrow streets leading to sacred sites: the Western Wall, the Dome of the Rock, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Mornings bring the scent of spices and fresh bread; evenings are marked by the call to prayer or church bells. Time feels suspended within these walls.

Beyond the Old City, Jerusalem changes. Wide boulevards and parks sit alongside markets like Mahane Yehuda, where vendors sell fresh produce and handmade crafts. In Ein Karem, Ottoman-era houses line the streets. You can eat hummus made from generations-old recipes or drink coffee in a café where artists gather. Even in modern districts, the past lingers.

Jerusalem is a city of contrasts. Holy sites stand near research labs, and in shopping centers, Hebrew, Arabic, and English mix. Summers are hot and dry; winters sometimes bring snow, briefly transforming the streets. But what defines Jerusalem is its atmosphere—history isn’t confined to museums. It’s in how people move, speak, and see the world.

Some come seeking answers, others for reflection, and many simply wander, trying to grasp what makes this city different. Past and present aren’t separate here—they’re woven together so tightly that separating them feels impossible. Jerusalem doesn’t ask what you believe. It simply exists.
