Tripoli
Tripoli is a city where the past lingers in the air like salt and spices carried on the Mediterranean breeze. Perched on Lebanon’s northern coast, it moves slower than the capital. Beirut races forward; Tripoli holds its ground. Centuries-old stone arches frame everyday life, and history feels tangible. It’s Lebanon’s second-largest city, yet it feels like a world apart—time hasn’t stopped but settled into something richer.

Old Tripoli
The city unfolds in two halves. Old Tripoli has labyrinthine alleys and crumbling fortifications. The Crusader-built Citadel of Raymond de Saint-Gilles looms over rooftops, its walls offering views of the sea and terracotta tiles below. At its base sprawls a souk where copperware clinks, textiles are handwoven, and spices are freshly ground. Merchants chat, coffee hisses in brass pots, and the call to prayer drifts from minarets. The Great Mosque and Taynal Mosque stand nearby, their courtyards shaded from the sun.

El Mina
El Mina is the coastal district where life slows to the pace of the waves. Fishermen mend nets on docks while children play on sand. Grilled fish scents the air from open-air restaurants. The waterfront has cafés where locals sip Turkish coffee and watch the sunset. Unlike other coastal spots, El Mina feels lived-in. The sea isn’t just a backdrop but a way of life.

Tripoli refuses to be one thing. Medieval mosques stand beside churches. The call to prayer mingles with a blacksmith’s hammer. Past and present coexist without fuss. There’s no grand spectacle—just alleys to wander, courtyards to stumble upon, workshops where copper is shaped by hand. The magic happens in quiet moments: light through old arches, fresh pomegranate juice from a vendor, laughter from a bakery.

Tripoli doesn’t ask for attention. It’s been here for millennia. If you listen—to the sea, the palm fronds, a muezzin’s voice—you’ll catch stories woven into its streets. That’s what stays with you.
