Weather overview

Севилья enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters. The city basks in sunshine for most of the year, making it a great destination for those who prefer warm weather. From June to September, Севилья experiences its hottest and driest period, with temperatures often climbing above 30 °C. If you’re not a fan of extreme heat, visiting in April, May, or October offers a more comfortable balance of warmth and mild conditions.

Winters in Севилье are gentle compared to much of Europe, with daytime temperatures rarely dropping below 10 °C. December and January are the coolest months, but even then, the city retains its charm with crisp air and occasional rain. Spring and autumn are particularly pleasant, with March and November bringing moderate temperatures and a mix of sunny and rainy days.

Temperature

Temperatures in Севилье vary significantly between seasons. In the peak of summer, July and August see average highs of 36.7 °C and 37.1 °C, while nights remain warm at around 20.7–21.1 °C. The heat can be intense, especially in the afternoons, so outdoor activities are best planned for early morning or evening. Conversely, winter months like January and December offer cooler weather, with daytime highs around 16.5–17.5 °C and lows dipping to 6.1–7.7 °C.

Spring and autumn provide the most comfortable temperatures for exploring Севилью. In April, the city warms up to 24 °C during the day, while May brings even milder conditions with highs of 28.9 °C. By October, the heat of summer fades, and temperatures settle around 27.6 °C, making it an ideal time for sightseeing. The transition between seasons is gradual, with March and November offering a mix of cooler mornings and pleasant afternoons.

Precipitation

Севилья is one of Spain’s driest major cities, with most rainfall occurring in the cooler months. October and November are the wettest, with 72.8 mm and 60.8 mm of rain, respectively. These months can bring occasional downpours, but they’re usually short-lived. March also sees a fair amount of rain (83.9 mm), though it’s spread over more days, resulting in lighter showers rather than heavy storms.

From June to August, rain is almost nonexistent, with July recording just 0.5 mm of precipitation. Even in the shoulder seasons, Севилья remains relatively dry, with April and May averaging 49.3 mm and 33.2 mm of rain. If you prefer to avoid wet weather, the summer months are your best bet, though the trade-off is the intense heat. For those who don’t mind occasional rain, September and December offer a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere.

What to pack

Packing for Севилью depends largely on the season. In summer, lightweight, breathable clothing is essential to cope with the 30+ °C heat. A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are must-haves, as the sun can be relentless. If you’re visiting in July or August, consider bringing a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated while exploring the city’s historic streets and plazas.

For spring and autumn trips, layers are key. In April or October, mornings and evenings can be cool, while afternoons warm up quickly. A light jacket or cardigan will come in handy, along with comfortable walking shoes. If you’re traveling in November or March, a compact umbrella or a waterproof layer might be useful for occasional rain. Winter visitors should pack a mix of warm and light clothing—think sweaters for cooler days and a scarf for chilly evenings, but don’t expect the need for heavy winter gear.
