Weather overview

In Pattaya, the weather stays warm throughout the year, with only subtle shifts between seasons. The dry season runs from January to April, offering the most comfortable conditions for exploring the city and its beaches. From May, the rains gradually increase, peaking in September and October before tapering off by December. Even during the wetter months, Pattaya rarely cools down much, with temperatures hovering around 28–30 °C most days.

The transition between seasons in Pattaya is smooth, without sharp drops in temperature. March and April are the hottest months, when the air can feel especially intense, especially around midday. By November, the rains ease, and the city settles into a pleasant rhythm, making it a popular time for visitors looking to avoid both the heaviest downpours and the peak heat.

Temperature

Temperatures in Pattaya remain consistently warm, with little variation between day and night. From January to April, daytime highs reach 30–32 °C, while nights stay mild at around 24–27 °C. The hottest period falls in March and April, when the mercury can climb to 31–32 °C, making shade and hydration essential.

From May onward, temperatures ease slightly, averaging 29–31 °C during the day and 26–27 °C at night. Even in the cooler months of November and December, the air rarely dips below 24 °C, so light clothing is always a safe choice. The sea follows a similar pattern, warming to 30–31 °C in April and May before cooling to a still-pleasant 28 °C by December.

Precipitation

Rainfall in Pattaya is highly seasonal, with a clear divide between dry and wet periods. From January to April, showers are rare, with January and December seeing as little as 5–13 mm of rain. The first significant increase comes in May, when monthly rainfall jumps to over 200 mm, signaling the start of the wet season.

The heaviest rains arrive in September and October, with totals exceeding 370 mm each month. Downpours are often short but intense, usually clearing up within a few hours. By November, the rains begin to retreat, and Pattaya returns to drier conditions, though occasional showers can still occur. For travelers, the dry months offer the most predictable weather, while the wet season brings lush landscapes and fewer crowds.

What to pack

When visiting Pattaya in the dry season, pack lightweight, breathable clothing to stay comfortable in the 30–32 °C heat. A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are essential year-round, as the sun is strong even on cloudy days. For evenings, a light cover-up or shawl may come in handy, though temperatures rarely drop below 24 °C.

During the rainy months from May to October, a compact umbrella or a waterproof jacket is useful for sudden downpours. Quick-drying fabrics and sandals with good grip will help navigate wet streets and beaches. If you plan to spend time outdoors, consider packing a small towel or a change of clothes, as humidity can make drying off a slow process. For any time of year, swimwear is a must—Pattaya’s sea stays warm enough for swimming even in December.
