Weather in Mumbai by month: what to expect

Мумбаи enjoys a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons. From November to April, the city experiences dry weather with warm days and mild nights. The hottest period falls between March and May, when temperatures often rise above 30 °C, making outdoor activities more challenging during midday.

The monsoon transforms Мумбаи from June to September, bringing heavy rainfall and high humidity. July is typically the wettest month, with over 1,200 mm of rain, which can disrupt travel plans. By October, the rains ease, and the city gradually returns to its dry, warm conditions.

Temperatures in Мумбаи remain warm year-round, rarely dropping below 18 °C even at night. The coolest months are January and December, when daytime highs average around 30–32 °C, while nights feel cooler at 18–20 °C. This period is ideal for exploring the city without extreme heat.

From March to May, Мумбаи heats up significantly, with daytime temperatures often reaching 33–34 °C. Nights offer little relief, staying above 25 °C. The sea temperature also rises, peaking at 31.7 °C in May, making beach visits more appealing despite the heat.

Мумбаи’s dry season, from November to May, sees minimal rainfall, with January and February almost completely dry. Even in March and April, rain is rare, with only a few millimeters recorded. This makes it the best time for sightseeing and outdoor activities.

The monsoon arrives in June, turning Мумбаи into a city of relentless rain. July is the wettest month, with over 1,200 mm of precipitation, often leading to waterlogging and delays. By September, the rains begin to taper off, though heavy showers can still occur until October.

For a trip to Мумбаи between November and February, pack lightweight, breathable clothing for daytime warmth and a light jacket or shawl for cooler evenings. Comfortable sandals or shoes are essential for walking, while sunglasses and sunscreen will protect against the strong sun.

If visiting Мумбаи from March to May, opt for loose, light-colored clothing to stay cool in the heat. A wide-brimmed hat and high-SPF sunscreen are must-haves. For the monsoon season, waterproof footwear, a compact umbrella, and quick-dry clothing will help you navigate the frequent downpours.

During the monsoon, a waterproof bag for electronics and important documents is useful. Mosquito repellent is also recommended year-round, but especially in the wetter months when standing water can increase insect activity.
