Weather overview

Лима sits on the Pacific coast with a climate unlike most tropical destinations. The city rarely sees rain, even in the wettest months, and humidity lingers near the ocean without the oppressive feel of a true jungle. Instead, Лима offers steady breezes and a gentle rhythm of temperatures that shift gradually through the year.

From January to March, Лима feels warmest, with daytime highs reaching 26-27 °C and nights staying mild. By April, the air cools slightly, and from May through September, the city settles into its coolest stretch, though still far from cold. Even in July and August, when temperatures dip to 16-17 °C, the lack of rain keeps the mood comfortable for exploring.

Temperature

The temperature in Лима follows a smooth curve, peaking in February at around 24 °C on average and dropping to its lowest in August at 16.7 °C. The difference between day and night remains small—usually 5-6 °C—so layers work well whether you’re out in the afternoon or walking along the coast after sunset.

From November to March, Лима stays warm enough for light clothing, with highs between 22 °C and 27 °C. The coolest months, June through September, bring highs of 18-20 °C and lows near 15-16 °C, a contrast that feels more noticeable near the water. Even then, the city avoids extremes, making it a year-round destination for those who prefer mild weather.

Precipitation

Лима is one of the driest capital cities in the world, with most months recording less than 1 mm of rain. The little moisture that arrives comes in February and March, when brief drizzle—known locally as *garúa*—can appear, though it rarely disrupts plans. From April onward, rain becomes almost nonexistent, leaving the city bathed in dry air.

The lack of rain means Лима’s streets stay clear, and outdoor activities run smoothly no matter when you visit. Even in the rare wetter months, precipitation barely registers, so umbrellas are unnecessary. The dryness also keeps humidity from feeling heavy, though the ocean breeze can bring a light mist in the early mornings, especially from June to September.

What to pack

For a trip to Лима, packing depends more on the time of year than on weather surprises. From December to April, light, breathable clothing works best—think cotton shirts, shorts, and sandals for daytime, with a light jacket or sweater for cooler evenings. Sunglasses and sunscreen are essential year-round, as the sun can be strong even when temperatures feel mild.

From May to November, Лима’s cooler air calls for layers. A light sweater or cardigan is useful for mornings and evenings, while a scarf can help with the ocean breeze. Comfortable walking shoes are a good idea, as the city’s sights often involve exploring on foot. Since rain is rare, waterproof gear isn’t necessary, but a compact umbrella might come in handy during the brief drizzle of February or March.
