Weather overview

Абу-Даби enjoys a desert climate with warm winters and intensely hot summers. From November to March, the weather is mild and comfortable, making it the most pleasant time to explore the city. Daytime temperatures range from +23 °C to +28 °C, while nights can be cooler, especially in January and February.

From April onward, the heat builds steadily, peaking in July and August when temperatures often exceed +40 °C. The humidity rises, but rainfall remains rare, with most precipitation occurring in March and April. Evenings offer little relief during these months, so outdoor activities are best planned for early morning or late afternoon.

Temperature

In Абу-Даби, winter months like December and January bring daytime highs of +24.6 °C to +25.7 °C, while nights can drop to around +17 °C. By March, the mercury climbs to +29.8 °C, signaling the start of the warmer season. The transition is gradual, but by May, temperatures regularly reach +38.5 °C.

The hottest period in Абу-Даби spans June to September, with average highs between +40.3 °C and +42.3 °C. Even the nights stay warm, rarely falling below +30 °C. By October, the heat begins to ease, though daytime temperatures still hover around +35.8 °C before cooling further in November.

Precipitation

Абу-Даби is one of the driest cities in the world, with most months seeing little to no rainfall. The few exceptions occur in March and April, when brief showers can bring 33–45 mm of rain. These months mark the tail end of the short wet season, though downpours are usually short-lived.

From May to November, rain is almost nonexistent, with totals often below 5 mm per month. Even in December, precipitation remains minimal at just 3.4 mm. The lack of rain, combined with high temperatures, means dry air dominates for much of the year, though humidity can make the heat feel more intense during summer.

What to pack

For a winter trip to Абу-Даби, pack lightweight clothing for daytime, but include a light jacket or shawl for cooler evenings, especially in January and February. Comfortable walking shoes are ideal for exploring, while sunglasses and sunscreen are essential year-round. A hat or scarf can help shield you from the sun during outdoor activities.

Visiting Абу-Даби in summer requires loose, breathable fabrics to stay cool in temperatures above +40 °C. Opt for long sleeves and pants in light colors to protect against the sun, and always carry a refillable water bottle. If you plan to swim, the Persian Gulf waters reach +34.8 °C in August, so a quick-dry swimsuit and water shoes are practical.

For trips in March or April, a compact umbrella or light rain jacket may come in handy for occasional showers. However, most of the year, your packing list for Абу-Даби should focus on sun protection, hydration, and clothing that keeps you comfortable in the heat.
